We figured it was about time for DJI to update the OSMO Mobile, but what they did came as quite the surprise. While we were expecting a replacement in the mid-to-high $200 range with stronger motors and a different clamp mechanism for the every-getting-bigger phone sizes, DJI retooled the OSMO MOBILE into a much lower priced unit that is much more budget-friendly for the average consumer.
What is the Osmo Mobile 2?
The Osmo Mobile 2 is a handheld smartphone gimbal made for the storyteller in all of us. Whatever your passion, wherever your destination, and whenever you feel inspired, capture moments with cinematic movement and incredible ease. Using a lightweight design, intelligent functions, and a long-lasting battery, the Osmo Mobile 2 lets you share your story.
The original Osmo Mobile started off at $299 when it came out and only this holiday season did we see a price reduction down to $199. The new Osmo Mobile 2 has a retail price of only $129, making it much more affordable than ever before.
The Osmo Mobile 2 lets you turn everyday situations into incredible moments with Timelapse. Shoot blooming flowers and rolling clouds, recording all their movements in a stable shot. For an even more dynamic effect, Motionlapse lets you move with the camera while creating equally smooth video.
For the filmmakers out there, a new built-in zoom slider lets you completely operate your smartphone camera from the handle with more fluid, cinematic zoom. You can even produce dolly zoom — a visual effect that only professional film sets could produce.
If you like big panorama shots, the Osmo Mobile 2 moves automatically to capture multiple photos then stitches them together to create a seamless image. You can also set your smartphone to Landscape or Portrait mode, giving you ideal options for every picture.
The Osmo Mobile 2 is outfitted with a large internal battery that can keep the Osmo Mobile 2 running for up to 15 hours. With such a large battery, you can also plug your phone into it and steal some juice to keep your phone charged up.
The Osmo Mobile 2 now works great in portrait mode which is perfect for shooting vertical videos such as is needed for Instagram stories.
The Osmo Mobile 2 is expected to arrive in mid-late February. Follow us on Facebook for product announcements.
